The ouroboros is a symbol of return, not of self-destruction

A serpent swallowing its own tail looks, at first glance, like a warning. Every culture that used the image read it as the opposite. The earliest known depiction comes from a shrine in the tomb of Tutankhamun, around the fourteenth century BC, and Greek writers later named it ouroboros from the words for tail and for devouring. What it meant then is what it means now: a line that has been bent until its end reaches its beginning, so that nothing is lost and nothing terminates. Vintage Maya carries roughly three thousand three hundred years of that idea around a wrist.

An antique finish is the only finish that improves when you scratch it

A mirror polish is a promise of perfection, and every mark on it is a broken promise. An antique finish makes no such promise. The metal is darkened and then relieved across the raised surfaces, so the recesses stay deep and the high points return light. You read the serpent through shadow rather than through shine, which means a new scratch reads as more relief and not as damage. This is the difference between a bracelet that looks best in the box and one that looks best in year three.

Sized for wrists that usually get told no

Vintage Maya comes in two sizes, Medium reaching 7.3 inches and Large reaching 8.3 inches. That upper figure is worth noticing, because most bracelet lines stop near 8 inches and send everything beyond it to a separate collection. Here the Large is a Large. A wrist that has spent years being measured out of designs it wanted is simply inside this one.

A men's bracelet in 316L stainless steel with an antique silver finish, drawn as a serpent closing on itself, secured with a clasp. Two sizes: Medium up to 7.3 inches, Large up to 8.3 inches. Two things, one of them permanent

The 316L stainless steel underneath is the permanent half. It contains chromium, which forms an invisible oxide layer that reseals itself the moment it is scratched, and that is the reason surgical steel does not rust. The antique silver above it is the other half, and it is not metal but treatment: a deliberate darkening held in the recesses of the design.

Rain yes, chlorine no

The steel does not care about water. The finish does. Chlorine, salt water, soap, and hand sanitizer all attack a darkened surface faster than any amount of wearing does, and they work from the recesses outward, which is exactly where the serpent's definition lives. Never polish an antique finish

This is the one instruction that matters, and it reverses what people assume about steel. Polishing compound, a jewelry dip, or an ultrasonic cleaner will lift the darkening out of the low points and leave a uniformly bright bracelet with no depth in it. The design is legible because of that contrast; take the contrast away and there is nothing to read. Scratches, by comparison, do no harm at all. They catch light on the high points, which is where light was already meant to land.

Care

• Wipe it with a soft dry cloth. That is the entire routine.
• No polish, no dips, no ultrasonic cleaners, no abrasive cloths.
• Take it off before pools, salt water, hot tubs, and washing your hands with soap.
• Put it on after cologne and sunscreen rather than before.
• If it gets wet, dry it with a cloth and give the recesses a moment of air.
• Store it in the Caligio pouch bag so it does not sit against harder metal.

To define the correct sizing of your wrist, we highly recommend using a tape measure and measuring the circumference of your wrist just above the hand. However, if you do not have a special measure, use a small piece of tape or a cord. Wrap it around your wrist and measure the length against a ruler.

The original gift box and velvet pouch must be included - returns without original packaging will not be accepted. Please note that a $9.99 shipping and handling fee applies to all domestic returns and will be deducted from the amount refunded.

Once your return is approved, please send the item(s) back within 7 days. 

For exchanges within the US, your first exchange is completely free and will be dispatched within 5 business days after we receive and inspect the item. Subsequent exchanges are at the customer's expense.
