Chains are not interchangeable objects in different widths. A Cuban link is made of flattened links that interlock in a single plane, so it holds a line and lies flat against the chest. A rope chain is a helix, and a helix bends in every direction at once. It hangs the way a cord hangs. It follows the curve of the neck, it shifts when you turn your head, and it settles differently every time you put it on. Rope Chain Silver moves like fabric and reflects like metal, which is a combination no other chain design manages.

Rhodium on a spiral

Rhodium is a platinum-group metal, rarer than gold, and it is what jewelers plate onto white gold to keep it white. It does not oxidize, so it cannot tarnish, and it is more reflective than silver. On a flat Cuban link that reflectivity becomes a mirror. On a rope, where every one of dozens of small links sits at its own angle, the same cold bright surface becomes a moving field of highlights. Sterling silver, apart from turning black, is too soft to hold this level of definition in a 5 mm spiral.

How to layer two chains and not look like you tried

The rule is contrast, not matching. Two chains work when they differ in three ways: length, width, and texture. A 5 mm rope at 20 inches under an 8 mm LA Cuban Chain Silver at 22 inches gives you all three, and the eye reads it as one decision. Two chains of similar width at similar length read as an accident.

316L stainless steel under rhodium

The 316L core is the structure: it does not rust, does not bend out of shape, and does not turn skin green. The rhodium layer is the appearance. Rhodium is a platinum-group metal that does not oxidize, which means this chain has no tarnish chemistry available to it at all. Sterling silver blackens because silver reacts with sulfur. There is no silver here.

Water, and what we recommend

Rain, sweat, and washing your hands are not a problem. Caligio recommends taking the chain off before a pool, the ocean, and anything involving soap or cleaning products. A coating is a surface, and chlorine, salt, and detergent go after surfaces long before they reach steel.

A spiral needs a brush, not a cloth

Every helix has valleys, and dust, skin, and cologne settle into the grooves of a rope chain rather than sitting on top of the metal. A cloth passes straight over them. That is why a neglected rope goes flat and grey while a flat chain of the same age still looks clean. A dry soft-bristle brush worked along the direction of the twist, once a month, brings the highlights back. It takes thirty seconds.

Care

• Take it off before pools, salt water, soap, and the gym.
• Put it on last, after cologne, aftershave, and hair product.
• Brush the spiral gently with a dry soft-bristle brush once a month, following the twist rather than crossing it.
• Wipe with a soft dry cloth. Silver polish and jewelry dips strip surface layers and have no purpose here.
• Store it hanging or flat in the Caligio pouch, never coiled tight and never tangled with other metal.

Skin sensitivity

Green marks on the neck come from copper alloys. This chain is built on 316L stainless steel, nickel-free and copper-free, which is the safe default for reactive skin and continuous daily wear.

To define the correct sizing of your wrist, we highly recommend using a tape measure and measuring the circumference of your wrist just above the hand. However, if you do not have a special measure, use a small piece of tape or a cord. Wrap it around your wrist and measure the length against a ruler.

To be eligible, the item must be unworn and in its original packaging, free from any odors (deodorant, perfume), stains, or signs of wear. The original gift box and velvet pouch must be included - returns without original packaging will not be accepted. Please note that a $9.99 shipping and handling fee applies to all domestic returns and will be deducted from the amount refunded.

Once your return is approved, please send the item(s) back within 7 days. 

For exchanges within the US, your first exchange is completely free and will be dispatched within 5 business days after we receive and inspect the item. Subsequent exchanges are at the customer's expense.
