What a Cuban link actually is

Cuban link is a specific construction, not a style name. Each link is oval, twisted, and then flattened so the faces sit flush against their neighbours, which is what makes the chain lie flat on the wrist instead of rolling. That flattening is also why light behaves differently on Cuban than on any other link: it travels along the surface as one continuous line rather than scattering off separate points, which is the whole reason the pattern became the most recognisable in men's jewellery. A rope chain is round and catches light in flecks. A box chain has four flat sides and reads quiet. Cuban is the loud one, deliberately.

Width is the decision, not the metal

This is the question worth answering before anything else, and most people ask it the wrong way round. Thin Cuban links, in the 3mm to 5mm range, read as jewellery: they slide under a cuff, sit beside a watch without competing, and are what to buy if you want a chain you never think about. From roughly 8mm upward it stops being jewellery and becomes hardware - visible across a room, heavy enough to feel with every movement, and it wants the rest of the wrist empty. Look at what a good watch is actually wearing. Not the dial - the bracelet: wide flat links, a taper toward the clasp, weight distributed across the wrist rather than hanging from one point. That engineering exists because a watch has to sit still while a hand moves all day, and it is the part of a luxury timepiece that actually touches you. Most men's bracelets are built to disappear. This one is built to be felt. Density is the oldest signal of quality there is, which is why a heavy pen writes better than a light one and why a car door is engineered to close with a particular sound. A substantial bracelet does not swing off the wrist bone; it settles. You stop noticing it after ten minutes and then notice it again every time you turn your hand.

Gold tone over steel, and what that means

The base is stainless steel, which does not rust and contains no copper or nickel to mark the skin. The gold colour is a finish over that steel, not solid gold, and we would rather say so plainly - a solid gold bracelet at this width would cost several thousand dollars, not twenty-nine. What the finish asks in return is that it stays out of chlorine and salt water, which dull any coloured metal faster than anything else, and that it goes on after cologne rather than before.

The steel needs nothing. The finish is what you look after

Stainless steel does not rust, does not tarnish, and has no copper or nickel in it to react with skin. So the only variable on this bracelet is the gold-tone finish sitting on top of it, and looking after that is simple: keep it out of chlorine and salt water. Those two dull a coloured metal faster than anything else, and they work at the clasp first, where the bracelet moves most.

Why a wide bracelet needs more wiping than a thin one

More surface, more contact with skin, more places for film to sit. Cologne, sunscreen and hand cream leave a residue that flattens the shine on flat Cuban faces very visibly, because those faces are what carry the light in one continuous line. A soft dry cloth along the links every week or two keeps that line clean.

Care

• Take it off before pools, salt water, and the shower.
• Put it on after cologne and skincare rather than before.
• Wipe along the links with a soft dry cloth. Nothing abrasive, no chemical polish.
• Store it flat in the Caligio pouch bag rather than loose in a drawer where it can rub.
• If it does get wet, dry it properly, paying attention to the clasp.

To define the correct sizing of your wrist, we highly recommend using a tape measure and measuring the circumference of your wrist just above the hand. However, if you do not have a special measure, use a small piece of tape or a cord. Wrap it around your wrist and measure the length against a ruler.
