Why the same blue is two different blues

Dye does not treat these two leathers alike, and the difference is visible from a foot away. Python has soft skin at the hinge of every scale and hard keratin across its face, so color sinks into the seams and skims the plates: a blue python cuff is dark where the scales meet and bright where they lie. Stingray inverts it. The leather bed drinks the dye and the mineral domes reject almost all of it, so the color pools in the valleys and pales at every crown. One blue reads as shadow. The other reads as frost. Nothing in the dye vat produced that. The structure did.

Genuine stingray, priced as a bracelet

Exotic leather is priced by the name on the box rather than the hide inside it, which is the reason most people have touched shagreen exactly once, in a museum. Caligio prices a bracelet as a bracelet. An open cuff on a 316L stainless steel frame in steel tone, faced in genuine blue stingray leather, with no clasp. Three sizes, which are three degrees of opening: Small up to 6.7 inches, Medium up to 7.2 inches, Large up to 7.7 inches. Unisex. A mineral surface on a living one

Stingray is leather carrying a coat of calcified beads, close to tooth enamel in hardness. The beads are almost indestructible. The hide holding them is not, and the 316L frame beneath needs nothing at all. Everything below is about the hide.

Stingray is not waterproof

Do not swim in it, shower in it, or leave it soaking. The beads do not care, but water pulls the natural oils out of the skin beneath them; the leather stiffens as it dries and loses the flexible bed the beads sit in. Occasional rain is not a problem. Repeated soaking, and heat applied to wet leather, are what ruin an exotic-leather bracelet. Caligio builds an entire waterproof bracelets collection for the wrist that lives in water.

The color lives in the valleys, so that is where it is lost

Dye reaches the leather bed and barely touches the mineral domes, which means all of the blue on this cuff is held in the low ground between the beads. That is the part a solvent finds first. Perfume, hand sanitizer, and cleaning products travel straight into the valleys by capillary action and take the color with them, while the pale crowns look untouched and hide the damage for a week. Nothing you can buy will put it back. This is the whole reason the bracelet goes on after the cologne rather than before.

Care

• Put it on last, after cologne, sunscreen, hand cream, and sanitizer. Take it off first.
• Take it off before water. If it gets wet, blot with a towel and dry at room temperature, never near heat.
• Clean with a dry soft-bristle brush. Debris settles in the valleys between the beads, never on the domes.
• Condition two or three times a year with a colorless leather balm. Tinted balm will muddy a clean blue.
• Take the bracelet off by sliding it sideways across the wrist rather than prying the tips apart.
• Store it flat in the Caligio pouch bag, away from direct sun.

To define the correct sizing of your wrist, we highly recommend using a tape measure and measuring the circumference of your wrist just above the hand. However, if you do not have a special measure, use a small piece of tape or a cord. Wrap it around your wrist and measure the length against a ruler.

Once your return is approved, please send the item(s) back within 7 days.
