What makes a Cuban chain a Miami Cuban
Every Cuban chain uses twisted interlocking links. A Miami Cuban tightens the specification. The links are wider than they are tall, each one flattened and polished on its face, and each set so closely into the next that the gaps between them almost close. The chain stops reading as a sequence of links and starts reading as one continuous ribbon of metal. That tightness is structural, not decorative: it is why a Miami holds a straight line across the chest while a looser chain collapses into a cord, and why the light running down it is a single unbroken band rather than a row of separate flashes.
Nine millimeters is where the chain becomes a silhouette
At 5 mm a chain is a detail. At 8 mm it is a line. At 9 mm it has a shape of its own, something the eye registers before it registers the shirt underneath. Miami Cuban Chain Gold is the widest chain Caligio builds, and the tight interlock is what lets that width turn into presence instead of bulk. A wide chain with loose links looks heavy. A wide chain with a closed interlock looks solid.
Nine millimeters of solid gold is a different object entirely
Weight does not rise politely with width. Take a 9 mm Miami at 22 inches, make it solid 14k gold, and you are wearing something that pulls at the back of the neck all day and costs what a used car costs. Caligio builds the same chain on 316L stainless steel, the marine-grade alloy used for surgical instruments, and puts the gold on the outside where it is seen. You get the silhouette, the shine, and a chain you actually forget you are wearing.
What you are actually wearing
A 316L stainless steel Miami Cuban chain, 9 mm wide, gold coated. Three lengths: Small at 52 cm (20.5 inches), Medium at 56 cm (22 inches), Large at 60 cm (23.6 inches). The matching wrist piece is Miami Cuban Bracelet Gold. The rhodium version is Miami Cuban Chain Silver. Narrower chains sit in the men's chains collection, and every gold one in the gold chains collection.

316L stainless steel under gold
Two materials, two jobs. The 316L core is the structure: it does not rust, does not tarnish, and does not turn skin green. The gold layer is the appearance, and appearance is a surface. Everything below protects the surface, because the structure looks after itself.
Water, and what we recommend
Rain, sweat, and washing your hands are not a problem. Caligio recommends taking the chain off before a pool, the ocean, and anything involving soap or cleaning products. Chlorine, salt, and detergent attack a coating long before they reach the steel, and gold does not grow back.
A wide chain wears where it folds
The tight Miami interlock keeps the chain flat while you are wearing it, which is exactly why you should not store it coiled. Wound into a tight circle in a drawer, a 9 mm chain forces every link to sit at an angle it was not built for, and the faces rub each other rather than sliding. Hang it, or lay it out straight. A chain that lives flat looks new for years longer than one that lives in a knot.
Care
- Take it off before pools, salt water, soap, and the gym.
- Put it on last, after cologne, aftershave, and hair product. Alcohol and propellant are hard on any coating.
- Wipe the flat faces with a soft dry cloth. No polish, no chemical dips, no ultrasonic cleaner: all three strip surface layers, and the surface layer is the gold.
- Store it hanging or laid out straight, never coiled tight and never tangled with other metal.
- Rotate it every few months so a different section sits at the back of the neck, where a shirt collar does most of the rubbing.
Skin sensitivity
Green marks on the neck come from copper alloys. This chain is built on 316L stainless steel, nickel-free and copper-free, which is the safe default for reactive skin and continuous daily wear.
What is a Miami Cuban chain?
A Miami Cuban is a Cuban link chain with a tighter specification: the links are wider than they are tall, flattened, polished on the face, and set so closely that the gaps nearly close. The chain reads as one continuous ribbon of metal rather than a sequence of links.
Miami Cuban or regular Cuban link?
The difference is the interlock. A Miami closes the gaps between links, so the chain holds a straight line across the chest and returns one unbroken band of light. A looser Cuban collapses into a cord and flashes link by link.
Is a 9mm chain too big?
Nine millimeters is where a chain gains a silhouette of its own, and the tight Miami interlock is what turns that width into presence rather than bulk. A wide chain with loose links looks heavy; a wide chain with a closed interlock looks solid.
Why not buy a solid gold Miami Cuban?
Because weight does not rise politely with width. A solid 14k gold 9 mm chain at 22 inches pulls at the back of the neck all day and costs accordingly. Caligio builds the same chain on 316L stainless steel and puts the gold where it is seen.
What length Miami Cuban chain should I buy?
Twenty and a half inches rests on the collarbone, 22 inches sits just below it, and 23.6 inches lands mid-chest over a t-shirt. A 9 mm chain holds a line, so the wrong length shows immediately. All three are available.
Will a gold plated chain turn my neck green?
No. Green marks come from copper alloys, and this chain is built on 316L stainless steel, nickel-free and copper-free. That is the same alloy used for surgical instruments and the safe default for reactive skin.
How should I store a wide chain?
Hanging, or laid out straight. Coiled tight in a drawer, a 9 mm chain forces every link to sit at an angle it was not built for, and the flat faces rub instead of sliding. A chain stored flat looks new for years longer.
To define the correct sizing of your wrist, we highly recommend using a tape measure and measuring the circumference of your wrist just above the hand. However, if you do not have a special measure, use a small piece of tape or a cord. Wrap it around your wrist and measure the length against a ruler.
