Navy and gold is what menswear reaches for when something has to look considered rather than casual, and the reference is a single garment: the navy blazer with gold buttons. How to wear it with a watch

The question that actually comes up, and the answer is simpler than most advice makes it. Metals do not need to match across two wrists - a gold bracelet on the right and a steel watch on the left is fine and always has been. What does matter is the same wrist: a gold bracelet next to a steel watch case, touching it and reflecting into it, is where mixing starts to look accidental rather than chosen. So either wear this on the free wrist, or wear it with a gold-cased watch. The other practical note is noise: put the bracelet on the wrist without the watch and neither one knocks against the other all day.

Navy does something black cannot

Black is the absence of colour and it stays absent - it disappears into an outfit and never comes back. Navy reads as dark in ordinary light but turns unmistakably blue when direct light hits it, so the bracelet is quiet most of the time and interesting some of the time. Against gold that shift is more visible than it is against steel, because a warm metal beside a cool colour makes the colour easier for the eye to separate out.

Which wrist, and what size

There is no rule about which wrist, and anyone stating one confidently is inventing it. The practical answer is the wrist without the watch, for the reason above. On sizing: the average adult male wrist falls between roughly 7 and 7.5 inches, which is why Medium is the size most men need. Measure with a tape or a strip of paper, add about half an inch, and buy to that number rather than guessing.

A gold bracelet that will not tarnish

This matters more on gold than on any other colour, because tarnished silver reads as age while dulled gold reads as cheap. The chain here is 316L stainless steel carrying a gold-tone finish, so there is no silver alloy underneath to react with air and no copper to mark the skin. What a box chain is

A box chain is built from square links that seat flush against each other, so the band carries four flat sides and reads as one continuous surface rather than a row of separate parts. A Cuban link uses angled twisted faces that throw light in every direction, which is why a gold Cuban is the piece most men picture when they decide gold is not for them. A rope bracelet is round and textile in character, which is why it reads casual. A box chain sits between them - metal, but flat and quiet - and those flat sides are also the reason a cord can be laced through it at all.

How the cord comes off

The cord is one continuous strand with both ends fixed under a small metal crimp near the clasp. One cut at the crimp, then pull, and the whole thing exits in about five seconds. There is no knot at each link to pick out. The change goes one way: the same cord does not go back on, and returns are not possible after it has been cut. There is no hurry either.

Two widths, both stated

The chain gauge is 5mm, and that is the classic bracelet you are left with. With the cord laced through it, the bracelet wears closer to 6mm on the wrist. Both numbers are here because a corded chain honestly has two measurements, and quoting only one is how a bracelet ends up looking thicker in person than it did in the photograph.

Two materials, one routine

Steel and marine-grade cord are both unaffected by water, which is the practical advantage this combination has over leather. Rinse the bracelet under clean water when it needs it and dry it with a soft cloth. Nothing here swells, stiffens, or has to be kept out of the rain.

Why a gold finish deserves more attention than a silver one

Tarnished silver reads as age; dulled gold reads as cheap. That is unfair but it is how the eye works, and it is the reason gold jewellery gets more care than silver of the same value. The steel underneath will not rust and will not mark the skin, so the finish is the only variable. Chlorine and salt water are what dull a coloured metal fastest, and they work at the clasp first, where the bracelet moves most.

A dark cord is the easiest to live with

Navy hides what a bright cord shows, so this version needs less attention than the coloured ones. Rinse it when it needs it, let the water run through the weave rather than wiping only the surface - on a corded chain, dirt collects under the cord rather than on top of it - then dry it properly.

• Rinse under clean water and dry with a soft cloth.
• Take it off before the pool. Chlorine dulls a gold finish faster than anything else.
• Put it on after cologne and skincare rather than before.
• Use a soft dry cloth on the metal. Nothing abrasive and no chemical polish.

• When you cut the cord, cut at the crimp near the clasp and pull the strand out whole.

To define the correct sizing of your wrist, we highly recommend using a tape measure and measuring the circumference of your wrist just above the hand. However, if you do not have a special measure, use a small piece of tape or a cord. Wrap it around your wrist and measure the length against a ruler.
