Why a dyed python looks nothing like dyed leather

Put dye on a cowhide and you get one color. Put it on python and you get two, because the surface is not one material. The scales are hard keratin and take dye shallowly, holding it on top. The soft leather at the hinge between scales drinks it. What comes out is a blue that is dark in every seam and bright across every scale, and it shifts as your wrist turns. No printing process reproduces this, because printing lays a single flat layer on a surface that is not flat.

Exotic leather, priced by the material

The exotic-leather market prices by reputation. A python bracelet from a luxury house costs many times what the leather cost, and the difference is the label. Black python hides its scales at a distance. Natural python shows its markings but stays quiet. What you are actually wearing

A single 5 mm cord of genuine python leather, dyed blue, closed with a stainless steel snap clasp. Three sizes: Small up to 6.7 inches, Medium up to 7 inches, Large up to 8 inches. Genuine python leather

Python is leather with an unusual surface: overlapping keratin scales, each hinged at its base so the cord stays flexible. The scales are hard. What lies under them is skin, and skin behaves like skin.

Python is not waterproof

Do not swim in it, shower in it, or leave it soaking. Water pulls the natural oils out of leather; the fiber stiffens as it dries, and the next bend cracks it. Scale edges are the first place that damage shows, because they are the thinnest part of the surface. Occasional rain is not a problem. Repeated soaking, and heat applied to wet leather, are what ruin an exotic-leather bracelet. Caligio builds an entire waterproof bracelets collection for the wrist that lives in water.

Protecting a saturated color

Strong colors on natural leather have one real enemy, and it is ultraviolet light rather than wear. Blue holds beautifully in a drawer and fades on a dashboard. A week of direct summer sun does more to the color than a year of daily wearing, so store the bracelet in its pouch rather than leaving it out on a windowsill.

Care

• Take it off before water, and put it on after cologne, sunscreen, and hand cream.
• If it gets wet, blot with a towel and dry at room temperature. Never a radiator, a hairdryer, or direct sun.
• Wipe along the scales with a dry cloth, never against them. Running a cloth backward lifts scale edges.
• Condition two or three times a year with a small amount of leather balm on a cloth, worked in gently.
• Wipe the steel clasp with a soft dry cloth.
• Store it flat in the Caligio pouch bag, away from direct sun.

Skin sensitivity

The clasp is stainless steel, nickel-free and copper-free, which is the safe default for reactive skin. Green wrist marks come from copper alloys and will not happen here.

To define the correct sizing of your wrist, we highly recommend using a tape measure and measuring the circumference of your wrist just above the hand. However, if you do not have a special measure, use a small piece of tape or a cord. Wrap it around your wrist and measure the length against a ruler.

If you ordered the wrong size, color, or simply would like to return the product, you can do so within 30 days from the delivery date. To be eligible, the item must be unworn and in its original packaging, free from any odors (deodorant, perfume), stains, or signs of wear. The original gift box and velvet pouch must be included - returns without original packaging will not be accepted. Please note that a $9.99 shipping and handling fee applies to all domestic returns and will be deducted from the amount refunded.

Once your return is approved, please send the item(s) back within 7 days. 

For exchanges within the US, your first exchange is completely free and will be dispatched within 5 business days after we receive and inspect the item. Subsequent exchanges are at the customer's expense.
