Why gold and turquoise work together
Gold and turquoise is one of the oldest color pairings in jewelry, worn in Egypt more than three thousand years ago and revived by every Southwestern silversmith since. The reason is optical rather than fashionable: turquoise sits on the cool side of the spectrum, gold on the warm side, and complementary tones make each other look more saturated than either does alone. On the Anchor Chain Gold & Turquoise, that means the cord reads brighter against the gold links than it would against silver, which is why this variant photographs the way it does.
What you are actually wearing
The chain is a solid 316L surgical stainless steel box chain, the same medical-grade alloy used in surgical implants, finished in gold through PVD coating, the process luxury watchmakers use on their gold-tone cases. Turquoise cord runs through every link rather than resting on top of them, so the color is part of the structure. The fold-over clasp closes flush against the wrist in one motion. Three sizes, S, M, and L, with M fitting most men.
Where it sits in your rotation
This is the summer piece in a chain wardrobe. Gold and turquoise reads coastal against a white t-shirt or linen shirt, holds up beside tan skin in July, and stays legible under a rolled sleeve at dinner. Caligio observes that men who own one neutral chain buy turquoise second, because it does the job no neutral can: it changes the season of an outfit without changing the outfit.
Stacking it
Keep hardware tones consistent, gold chain beside gold-tone watch or gold shackle, and let the turquoise be the only bright element on the wrist. The natural partner is Fortune Turquoise, the same tone in marine rope, giving one color across two very different textures. For a quieter second piece, the Anchor Chain Gold & Black stacks in the same metal without competing. The full twelve-variant lineup lives in the Anchor Chain collection, and the wider tone across rope, exotic leather, and chain in the turquoise bracelets collection.

316L surgical stainless steel
The chain and clasp are made from 316L surgical stainless steel, the medical-grade alloy used in surgical implants and premium watch cases. Its high chromium content forms a self-repairing oxide layer on the surface, which is why 316L does not rust, does not tarnish, and does not turn skin green. It contains no nickel available to the skin and no copper, so it is safe for sensitive wrists and continuous daily wear.
PVD gold coating
The gold finish is applied through physical vapor deposition, the same process luxury watchmakers use on gold-tone cases. PVD bonds the color to the steel at the molecular level rather than resting on the surface the way traditional plating does, so the finish resists scratching and holds its tone through years of daily wear.
Woven cord
Turquoise nylon cord runs through every link, dyed through the fiber rather than coated on the surface, so there is no layer to scratch or wear away. The cord is the only part of this bracelet that ages, and it ages slowly.
Care
- Wipe with a soft dry cloth after wear. This is the only routine care the piece needs.
- Water does not harm the 316L steel. Keep the bracelet dry when you can, to extend the life of the cord and clasp.
- Rinse with fresh water and pat dry after contact with salt water, chlorine, or heavy sweat.
- Take it off before applying cologne, sunscreen, or lotion, then put it back on once the skin is dry.
- Store it in the Caligio pouch bag, away from direct sunlight and away from pieces that could scratch the finish.
- Never use bleach, alcohol, abrasive cleaners, or ultrasonic jewelry machines. None of them are needed, and all of them shorten the life of the cord.
Skin sensitivity
Green wrist marks come from copper alloys, and fading comes from thin electroplating. This piece uses neither. If you have reacted to jewelry before, 316L steel is the alloy dermatologists point to as the safe default, and the hypoallergenic range at Caligio is built on it.
Is the gold real gold, and will it wear off?
The gold finish is PVD coating over solid 316L surgical stainless steel, the same process used on gold-tone luxury watch cases. PVD bonds at the molecular level rather than sitting on the surface like traditional plating, so it holds its color through years of daily wear and will not turn your wrist green.
Is the turquoise a real stone?
No, and that is by design. Turquoise here is a color, not a gemstone. Natural turquoise stone is soft, porous, and absorbs skin oils over time. The turquoise cord woven through this chain delivers the exact sea-blue tone in a material engineered for daily wear, with no maintenance and no color change.
Can I wear it in the shower or the ocean?
The 316L steel chain handles water without any issue and will never rust or tarnish. We recommend keeping the bracelet dry when you can, not for the steel but to extend the life of the cord and the fold-over clasp. Accidental exposure, rain, a splash, a quick rinse, does no harm.
What size should I order?
Size M fits most men and is the most popular pick. Size S fits smaller wrists and most women. Size L fits larger wrists up to 8 inches. The fold-over clasp means the size is fixed, so if you sit between two sizes, go one up.
Will gold work with my skin tone?
Gold reads warmer and suits warm undertones especially well, and a summer tan shifts most skin tones warmer regardless of their winter baseline. The simpler rule is to match the hardware you already wear: if your watch and rings run warm, choose gold. If they run silver, the Steel & Turquoise variant carries the same cord on a silver chain.
Is it hypoallergenic?
Yes. The chain and clasp are 316L surgical stainless steel, nickel-free and copper-free, the same alloy used in surgical implants. There is no green-wrist reaction, and the piece is safe for sensitive skin and continuous daily wear.
What does it stack with?
Keep the metal tone consistent and let turquoise be the only bright element. Fortune Turquoise gives you the same tone in marine rope for a two-texture stack. Anchor Chain Gold & Black adds a second piece in the same metal without competing for attention.
Is this a good gift?
Turquoise is the most specific choice in the twelve-variant lineup, which is exactly what makes it read as a considered gift rather than a default one. It ships gift-boxed with a Caligio pouch, and it sits in the range where a memorable gift does not require a luxury budget.
To define the correct sizing of your wrist, we highly recommend using a tape measure and measuring the circumference of your wrist just above the hand. However, if you do not have a special measure, use a small piece of tape or a cord. Wrap it around your wrist and measure the length against a ruler.
