The 4mm Purple Tennis Bracelet is the classic construction with the one change that alters everything: the stones are purple. A single unbroken line of round-cut 5A grade zircon in deep violet, each stone in its own four-prong stainless steel setting, running the full way around with no centre stone and no front.

A coloured stone is not trying to be a diamond. That is the quiet advantage here. A clear tennis bracelet invites a comparison it can only lose, because everyone knows what it is imitating. Purple invites no comparison at all - it is judged on whether the colour is good, and this one is deep rather than pale, closer to amethyst than to lilac.

Purple and steel sit at the same temperature. Violet is a cool colour, and a cool metal lets it stay that way. Warm gold would pull it toward red and turn the whole piece ceremonial. A coloured stone has nothing to prove

This is the real argument for buying purple over clear, and it has nothing to do with taste. A clear tennis bracelet is measured against a diamond whether you want it to be or not, because everyone in the room knows what a clear stone in a line setting is imitating. A purple one is measured against nothing. There is no famous original it is standing in for, so it is judged on one question only: is the colour good. That freedom is why coloured stones often read more confident on a wrist than clear ones at the same price.

Why purple works against steel and not against gold

Violet sits on the cool side of the spectrum, and it stays there only if the metal around it does too. Warm gold pulls the red half of purple forward and turns the piece ceremonial, closer to velvet and heraldry. Silver-tone steel holds the blue half in place, and the result reads modern and clean instead. It is the same stone in both cases; the metal decides which half of the colour you see.

What 5A actually means

Cubic zirconia is graded A, AAA, AAAAA - commonly written 5A - and the grade describes cut precision and clarity rather than marketing. It matters more on a coloured stone than on a clear one. A poorly cut violet goes muddy and grey the moment it leaves daylight, because there is not enough light bouncing back out to carry the colour. A 5A stone is cut to diamond proportions with a clean table, which is what keeps this line reading purple under office lighting rather than washing out to grey.

Deep, not pale

These sit closer to amethyst than to lilac. That depth is what makes the bracelet wearable rather than decorative: a pale violet reads soft and reads feminine, while a saturated one reads as a deliberate colour choice. It works against black, charcoal, white, grey, and denim, and it is the one thing on the wrist that does not need anything else explaining it.

The metal needs nothing

Stainless steel will not tarnish, will not rust, and will not turn the skin green. Its chromium content forms a self-repairing oxide layer, which is the reason the same alloy family is used for surgical tools. There is no plating anywhere on this bracelet, so there is nothing that can wear off at the clasp or along the underside, which is where every plated piece fails first.

Colour depends on light getting out

A violet stone reads purple because light enters the crown, travels through the colour, and comes back out. Block that path and the colour goes with it - which is why a coloured tennis bracelet looks grey and dead long before anything is actually wrong with it. The culprit is a film of skin oil on the underside of the settings. Wiping the back of the line with a dry lint-free cloth restores the colour along with the brightness, and once a week is enough.

Water

Rain, sweat, and a rinse under the tap do nothing to the steel. Chlorine is the one thing worth avoiding: pool water leaves a film that dulls cubic zirconia faster than anything else, so take the bracelet off before swimming. Soap does the same more slowly, which is why the shower is worth skipping too.

The clasp

The box clasp is the only moving part. Press the tongue home until you feel it seat, and open it by releasing the clasp rather than pulling on the stone line. Keep lotion out of the mechanism, since residue inside the box is what makes a clasp feel gritty over time.

Care

Put it on last, after cologne and any skincare, and take it off first at the end of the day.
Wipe the underside of the stone line with a dry lint-free cloth about once a week.
Rinse under clean water when it needs it, then dry it fully with a soft cloth.
Take it off before swimming. Chlorine dulls the stones.
Avoid abrasive pastes and ultrasonic cleaners, which can work a prong loose.
Close the clasp before storing, and keep it flat in the Caligio pouch bag rather than loose in a drawer.

Can I wear it in water?

Why is it called a tennis bracelet?

From the 1987 US Open, where American player Chris Evert's diamond line bracelet came off mid-match and play was paused while she recovered it. Until then the style was called an eternity or line bracelet. The press renamed it, and the older names disappeared.

To define the correct sizing of your wrist, we highly recommend using a tape measure and measuring the circumference of your wrist just above the hand. However, if you do not have a special measure, use a small piece of tape or a cord. Wrap it around your wrist and measure the length against a ruler.
