Stingray leather has a name of its own: shagreen. For centuries Japanese swordsmiths wrapped it around katana handles underneath the cord binding, and they did it for one reason. The surface is covered in thousands of calcified beads, hard as tooth enamel, and a hand closing on that surface does not slip, wet or dry. Everything you can feel on Wild Blue Stingray was originally a solution to the problem of holding a blade.

Beads, not grain

Cowhide is fiber. It creases, it scuffs, it wears through at the fold. Stingray has no directional grain at all: it is a mosaic of separate mineral nodes sitting in a leather bed, which is why the surface catches light in a thousand independent points and why it resists the abrasion that ruins ordinary leather. Run a thumb across it and you feel the texture change direction with you.

Exotic leather, priced by the material

Stingray is a material luxury houses use sparingly and charge for heavily, pricing it by the name on the box rather than the hide inside it. Caligio prices a bracelet as a bracelet, which is why the Wild collection puts genuine shagreen at the price of a plain leather cord.

What you are actually wearing

Genuine stingray leather, dyed blue, closed with a stainless steel snap clasp. Three sizes: Small up to 6.7 inches, Medium up to 7.2 inches, Large up to 8 inches. Texture varies between bracelets because each is cut from a different piece of leather. The same material in an unusual color is Wild Purple Stingray. Genuine stingray leather

Stingray is leather with a mineral surface. Thousands of calcified beads, close to tooth enamel in hardness, sit embedded in a hide that behaves like any other hide. The beads are almost indestructible. The leather holding them is not, and every line below is about the leather.

Stingray is not waterproof

Do not swim in it, shower in it, or leave it soaking. The beads do not care, but water pulls the natural oils out of the skin beneath them; the leather stiffens as it dries and loses the flexibility that keeps the bead layer intact. Occasional rain is not a problem. Repeated soaking, and heat applied to wet leather, are what ruin an exotic-leather bracelet. Why stingray outlasts ordinary leather

Cowhide fails at the fold, where fiber runs one way and bends against itself. Stingray has no fiber direction, so there is no fold line to form and no nap to rub away. Handled reasonably, the bead surface you see today is the bead surface in ten years. The color underneath is what ages, not the texture.

Care

• Take it off before water, and put it on after cologne, sunscreen, and hand cream.
• If it gets wet, blot with a towel and dry at room temperature. Never a radiator, a hairdryer, or direct sun.
• Clean with a dry cloth. Debris collects between the beads, so use a soft dry brush rather than digging with a nail.
• Condition two or three times a year with a small amount of leather balm, worked into the surface with a cloth.
• Wipe the steel clasp with a soft dry cloth.
• Store it flat in the Caligio pouch bag, away from direct sun.

Skin sensitivity

The clasp is stainless steel, nickel-free and copper-free, which is the safe default for reactive skin. Green wrist marks come from copper alloys and will not happen here.

To define the correct sizing of your wrist, we highly recommend using a tape measure and measuring the circumference of your wrist just above the hand. However, if you do not have a special measure, use a small piece of tape or a cord. Wrap it around your wrist and measure the length against a ruler.

If you ordered the wrong size, color, or simply would like to return the product, you can do so within 30 days from the delivery date. To be eligible, the item must be unworn and in its original packaging, free from any odors (deodorant, perfume), stains, or signs of wear. The original gift box and velvet pouch must be included - returns without original packaging will not be accepted. Please note that a $9.99 shipping and handling fee applies to all domestic returns and will be deducted from the amount refunded.

Once your return is approved, please send the item(s) back within 7 days. 

For exchanges within the US, your first exchange is completely free and will be dispatched within 5 business days after we receive and inspect the item. Subsequent exchanges are at the customer's expense.
