Back cut or belly cut: the detail that defines every python piece

Python hides enter the leather trade in one of two cuts, and the choice decides everything about how the finished piece looks. A belly cut opens the hide along the underside, putting the large, dramatic back scales at the center of the pattern. A back cut does the opposite, centering the smaller, tighter belly scales for a more uniform, refined surface. How to tell real python from embossed print

Three checks separate genuine python leather from cowhide embossed with a snake pattern. First, edges: real python scales lift very slightly at their trailing edge, a three-dimensional texture you can feel under a fingertip, while embossed print is uniformly flat. Second, repetition: an embossing plate repeats its pattern every few inches; a real hide never repeats anywhere, because no two scales grow identical. Third, the scale rows flow and vary in width across a real hide, following the animal's body, where a print stays mechanically regular.
