A lot of boomers wrote to us. Not a suggestion box - actual emails, some in capital letters, all saying roughly the same thing: make a proper leather bracelet, stop putting clasps on them that need tweezers and a magnifying glass. So we did. Gentlemen, this one is for you.

Boomer Black is a wide braided leather bracelet for men in classic black, with a steel clasp that closes itself. A magnet pulls the two halves into line - no aiming - and a mechanical catch clicks over the top and holds. On in two seconds, one hand, without looking.

No app. No charging. No subscription. It does not sync with anything, it will never ask you to accept updated terms, and the battery lasts forever because there isn't one. Braided leather and steel. That is the entire feature list, and we are not sorry about it.

Black is the one you cannot get wrong. It sits correctly against every shirt, every watch, every pair of shoes you own. If this is the first bracelet you have worn since the seventies, start here.

Genuine braided leather, 316L stainless steel clasp. Medium up to 7.2 inches, Large up to 8.2. $49. Part of the Prime collection. Ships gift-boxed from Los Angeles.

Why this line exists

A lot of boomers wrote to us. Enough of them, over enough months, that it stopped being a coincidence and became a to-do item. The emails were remarkably consistent: make a classic leather bracelet, none of the trend nonsense, and for the love of God put a clasp on it that a grown man can fasten by himself in under a minute. One customer described his last bracelet as needing "two hands, good light, and a calm mood." We have thought about that line a lot.

So we built the Boomer line inside Prime and named it after the people who ordered it into existence. The name is the joke. The clasp is the serious part.

The clasp, which is the whole point

Most leather bracelets close with a lobster clip. You pinch a tiny spring-loaded gate, aim it at a jump ring roughly the size of a grain of rice, and hold everything perfectly still while it hooks. That is a two-hand operation performed on the one part of the body where you only have one hand available. It is also the single most common reason a perfectly good bracelet lives in a drawer.

This one closes differently. Both halves of the clasp are flat steel plates. Bring them near each other and a magnet inside pulls them into alignment on its own - you do not aim, the clasp does the aiming. Then a mechanical fold-over catch clicks shut over the top and takes the load. Two systems, two jobs: the magnet handles the fiddly part, the catch handles the holding part. On in about two seconds, one-handed, in the dark if you like.

Why not a magnet on its own

Because magnet-only clasps come off. A sleeve catches it, you reach into a car door, you pull a sweater over your head - and a leather bracelet has enough weight to keep travelling once it lets go. Plenty of brands sell magnet-only and hope you do not find out in a parking lot. The mechanical catch is what makes this safe to wear all day. The magnet is convenience; the catch is security. One without the other is half a clasp.

Things this bracelet does not do

It does not connect to your phone. It does not count your steps, monitor your sleep, or send anything to anybody. It has no battery, so it never needs charging, and no firmware, so it will never brick itself on a Tuesday. It will not be discontinued in eighteen months in favour of a thinner version with fewer features. It is leather and steel, it does one job, and it will do that job in ten years exactly as well as it does now.

Black, and why it is the safe one

Black leather is the only version of this bracelet that requires no thought at all. It sits correctly against every colour of shirt, every watch metal, and every shoe, and it never looks like it was chosen to match something. If this is the first bracelet you have owned in a few decades, take black and get comfortable. Then, if you want, the brown is warmer and the olive green is the one nobody else will be wearing.

If you are buying this as a gift

Then read this part. For a father, a father-in-law, a granddad, or a retirement: the clasp is the reason this gets worn instead of admired once and put away. Black is the safest colour to give because nothing in his wardrobe can clash with it. Medium fits most men if you cannot get at his wrist without giving the surprise away. It arrives gift-boxed, so there is nothing to wrap.

What braided leather actually gives you

Texture instead of shine. A single flat strap reflects light and reads formal; a braid breaks the surface into dozens of small facets that catch light softly and read relaxed. The weave is also structurally why the bracelet holds its shape - woven strands spread tension around the wrist rather than concentrating it at one point, which is why a braided bracelet keeps its round profile while a flat one eventually creases.

Leather is not waterproof, and we are not going to pretend otherwise

Water is what ends a leather bracelet. It swells the fibres, then they dry stiff and crack along the fold lines. This comes off before showers, pools, and the sea - the steel clasp would be perfectly happy, the leather would not. Kept dry it darkens slowly and evenly with wear, which is the good kind of ageing.

Sizing, and which wrist

The average adult male wrist is roughly 7 to 7.5 inches, so Medium, fitting up to 7.2, covers most men. Large goes to 8.2. Measure with a tape or a strip of paper. As for which wrist: there is no rule, whatever anyone tells you. The practical answer is the wrist without the watch, so they do not knock together all day.

Water is what ends a leather bracelet

Not wear, not the clasp, not time - water. It swells the leather fibres, and when they dry they shrink back stiff and crack along whatever line the bracelet was bent on. The steel clasp would be perfectly happy in a shower; the leather would not. So this comes off before showers, pools, and the sea, and that one habit is most of what keeps it looking right.

If a leather bracelet starts to smell

It is not the leather, it is what got into it: sweat and skin oils soaking into the underside where it sits against the wrist. Prevention is easier than cure - take it off before the gym, and let it air on a surface rather than dropping it straight into a drawer. If it does pick up an odour, wipe the underside with a barely damp cloth and let it dry fully at room temperature, away from any heat. Never use soap, alcohol, or a hairdryer: all three strip the oils out of the leather and leave it worse than the smell did.

The braid needs less than a flat strap

A woven surface hides small marks that a smooth one shows, so this needs no conditioning routine and no polish. An occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth is the whole maintenance schedule. Kept dry, it darkens slowly and evenly with wear, which is the good kind of ageing and the reason leather is worth having in the first place.

Care

  • Keep it dry. Off before showers, pools, the sea, and the gym.
  • Put it on after cologne and skincare rather than before.
  • Let it air after a hot day rather than going straight into a drawer.
  • Wipe with a soft dry cloth. No soap, no alcohol, no conditioner needed.
  • If it gets wet, dry it at room temperature, never with heat.
  • Store it flat in the Caligio pouch bag.

Why is it called Boomer?

Because a lot of boomers wrote to us and asked for it. Actual emails, some in capital letters, all saying the same thing: make a proper leather bracelet and put a clasp on it a grown man can fasten by himself. So we did, and we named the line after the people who ordered it into existence. The name is the joke. The clasp is the serious part.

Can I put it on with one hand?

Yes, in about two seconds, without looking. A magnet pulls the two steel halves into alignment on its own, so you never have to aim, and a mechanical catch clicks over the top and holds. Compare that to a lobster clip, which needs you to pinch a spring gate and hit a ring the size of a grain of rice.

Is a magnetic clasp secure?

A magnet on its own is not, which is exactly why this is not magnet-only. Magnet-only clasps come off on a sleeve, a car door, or a sweater pulled over the head. Here the magnet only aligns the halves and a mechanical catch does the holding. Convenience and security, doing separate jobs.

Is this a good gift for an older man?

It is one of the few that gets worn rather than admired once and put in a drawer, and the clasp is the reason. For a father, father-in-law, granddad, or a retirement: black goes with everything he already owns, Medium fits most men if you cannot measure his wrist secretly, and it arrives gift-boxed so there is nothing to wrap.

Does it connect to anything?

No. No app, no battery, no charging cable, no firmware, no subscription, and no updated terms to accept. It does not count steps or monitor sleep. It is leather and steel, it does one job, and it will do that job in ten years exactly as well as it does today.

Black, brown, or olive green?

Black needs no thought at all - it sits correctly against every shirt, watch metal, and shoe, and it is the right first leather bracelet. Brown is warmer and pairs with the tan and brown leather you already own. Olive green is the one nobody else will be wearing.

Are leather bracelets waterproof?

No, and any brand telling you otherwise is selling something. Water swells leather fibres, and when they dry they shrink back stiff and crack along the fold lines. Take it off before showers, pools, and the sea. The steel clasp would be fine; the leather would not.

What if my leather bracelet starts to smell?

It is sweat and skin oils in the underside, not the leather itself. Wipe the underside with a barely damp cloth and let it dry fully at room temperature. Never use soap, alcohol, or a hairdryer - all three strip the oils out and leave it worse. Better still, take it off before the gym and let it air rather than dropping it in a drawer.

Why braided rather than a flat strap?

Texture instead of shine. A flat strap reflects light and reads formal; a braid breaks the surface into dozens of small facets and reads relaxed. The weave is also why the bracelet holds its round profile - woven strands spread tension around the wrist instead of concentrating it where a flat strap would eventually crease.

Which size should I order?

The average adult male wrist is roughly 7 to 7.5 inches, so Medium, fitting up to 7.2, covers most men. Large goes to 8.2. Measure with a tape or a strip of paper and order to that number rather than guessing.

Which wrist should a man wear a bracelet on?

There is no rule, whatever anyone tells you. The practical answer is the wrist without the watch, so the two do not knock against each other all day - which for most right-handed men means the right.

Will it turn my wrist green?

No. Green marks come from copper reacting with sweat, which is why brass and cheap alloy fittings do it. The clasp here is 316L stainless steel, which contains no copper and no nickel.

To define the correct sizing of your wrist, we highly recommend using a tape measure and measuring the circumference of your wrist just above the hand. However, if you do not have a special measure, use a small piece of tape or a cord. Wrap it around your wrist and measure the length against a ruler.
