Why this line exists

A lot of boomers wrote to us. Enough of them, over enough months, that it stopped being a coincidence and became a to-do item. The emails were remarkably consistent: make a classic leather bracelet, none of the trend nonsense, and put a clasp on it that works first time. One customer described a bracelet he had given up on as needing "two hands, good light, and a calm mood." We have thought about that line a lot.

So we built the Boomer line inside Prime and named it after the people who ordered it into existence. The name is the joke. The clasp is the serious part.

The clasp, which is the whole point

This is the easiest closure Caligio makes, and it was engineered specifically to be. Both halves are flat steel plates. Bring them near each other and a magnet inside pulls them into alignment on its own - you do not aim, the clasp does the aiming for you. Then a mechanical fold-over catch clicks shut over the top and takes the load.

Two systems doing two separate jobs: the magnet handles the lining-up, the catch handles the holding. The result is a bracelet that goes on in about two seconds, one-handed, in poor light, without your reading glasses. If you have ever put a bracelet down because getting it on was more effort than wearing it was worth, this is the answer to that.

Why not a magnet on its own

Because magnet-only clasps come off. A sleeve catches it, you reach into a car door, you pull a sweater over your head - and a leather bracelet has enough weight to keep travelling once it lets go. The mechanical catch is what makes this safe to wear all day and forget about. The magnet is convenience; the catch is security. One without the other is half a clasp.

Olive green is a neutral that came from equipment

This is why it works on men who would never otherwise wear green. Olive did not arrive in menswear through fashion - it arrived through kit. Field jackets, flight jackets, fatigues, canvas packs, tool bags, Jeeps. Decades of that make a colour behave like a neutral: it stops reading as a decision and starts reading as something that was always there. A man who would refuse a green bracelet on principle will wear an olive one without noticing the contradiction, and he is not wrong to.

What follows practically: olive sits with the same things brown does - denim, khaki, tan, and every shade of grey - but it runs cooler than brown, so unlike brown it does not fight black. It is the most flexible of the three colours in this line and the least common anywhere.

Almost nobody makes an olive leather bracelet

Leather bracelets come in black and brown. That is essentially the entire market, which is what makes the third colour interesting: this is the version you will not see on somebody else at the same table. If the reason you are looking at leather is that you want something classic rather than something loud, olive gives you the classic construction in a colour that has not been done to death.

Things this bracelet does not do

It does not connect to your phone. It does not count your steps, monitor your sleep, or send anything to anybody. No battery, so it never needs charging. No firmware, so it will never brick itself on a Tuesday. It will not be discontinued in eighteen months in favour of a thinner version with fewer features. Leather and steel, one job, done the same way in ten years as it is today.

If you are buying this as a gift

Then read this part. For a father, a father-in-law, a granddad, or a retirement: the clasp is the reason this gets worn instead of admired once and put away. Olive is the pick when he already has a black or brown one, or when you want the gift to be a bit more considered than the obvious choice. Medium fits most men if you cannot get at his wrist without giving the surprise away. It arrives gift-boxed, so there is nothing to wrap.

What braided leather actually gives you

Texture instead of shine. A single flat strap reflects light and reads formal; a braid breaks the surface into dozens of small facets that catch light softly and read relaxed. On olive the weave does something extra: light and shadow across the surface shift the colour between a lighter khaki on the raised strands and a deep forest tone in the recesses. A flat olive strap would read as one flat colour. This does not.

Leather is not waterproof, and we are not going to pretend otherwise

Water is what ends a leather bracelet. It swells the fibres, then they dry stiff and crack along the fold lines. This comes off before showers, pools, and the sea - the steel clasp would be perfectly happy, the leather would not. Olive will also lift toward a lighter khaki in long direct sun, which some men like and let happen; store it in its pouch if you want it to stay deep.

The rest of the line

Boomer Black is the one that needs no thought at all. Boomer Brown matches the leather most men already own. All three share the same braid, the same steel, and the same clasp - the only decision is colour.

Sizing, and which wrist

The average adult male wrist is roughly 7 to 7.5 inches, so Medium, fitting up to 7.2, covers most men. Large goes to 8.2. Measure with a tape or a strip of paper. As for which wrist: there is no rule, whatever anyone tells you. The practical answer is the wrist without the watch, so they do not knock together all day.

Water is what ends a leather bracelet

Not wear, not the clasp, not time - water. It swells the leather fibres, and when they dry they shrink back stiff and crack along whatever line the bracelet was bent on. The steel clasp would be perfectly happy in a shower; the leather would not. So this comes off before showers, pools, and the sea, and that one habit is most of what keeps it looking right.

Olive fades in strong sun

The one thing worth knowing about a dyed colour rather than a natural brown. Long direct sunlight will lift olive toward a lighter khaki over time - some men like that and let it happen, in which case do nothing. If you want it to stay deep, store it in its pouch between wears rather than on a windowsill or a car dashboard.

If a leather bracelet starts to smell

It is not the leather, it is what got into it: sweat and skin oils soaking into the underside where it sits against the wrist. Prevention is easier than cure - take it off before the gym, and let it air on a surface rather than dropping it straight into a drawer. If it does pick up an odour, wipe the underside with a barely damp cloth and let it dry fully at room temperature, away from any heat. Never use soap, alcohol, or a hairdryer: all three strip the oils out of the leather and leave it worse than the smell did.

Care

• Keep it dry. Off before showers, pools, the sea, and the gym.
• Store it out of direct sun if you want the olive to stay deep.
• Put it on after cologne and skincare rather than before.
• Let it air after a hot day rather than going straight into a drawer.
• Wipe with a soft dry cloth. No soap, no alcohol, no conditioner needed.
• If it gets wet, dry it at room temperature, never with heat.
• Store it flat in the Caligio pouch bag.

To define the correct sizing of your wrist, we highly recommend using a tape measure and measuring the circumference of your wrist just above the hand. However, if you do not have a special measure, use a small piece of tape or a cord. Wrap it around your wrist and measure the length against a ruler.
